About Transport for Wales
Transport for Wales (TfW) was created by the Welsh government in 2016 to oversee public transportation in Wales. As Arriva Trains Wales' contract to provide rail services in Wales comes to an end in 2017, TfW began negotiating a new 15-year contract with the rail provider. In May 2018, Transport for Wales awarded the contract to KeolisAmey Wales to operate the Wales and Borders rail network. Kevin Thomas, executive director of Transport for Wales Rail Services, commented, 'Our customers, the people of Wales and the Borders, deserve rail services that match the Welsh government's vision. We know that people have high expectations for the transformation that will take place in the coming years. We are determined to earn their trust and develop a rail service that exceeds their expectations. All public spaces are carefully cleaned, including platform furniture, signage, bulletin boards, lighting, waiting shelters, overhanging vegetation, parking lots, pedestrian bridges, station buildings and the removal of ingrained historic graffiti.' Under the Transport for Wales brand, we have used the most services in the history of TfW being set up Rail service over 50 miles is now the cheapest ever as Transport for Wales (TfW) launches its first pricing initiative. During the coronavirus pandemic in February 2021, the Transport for Wales group was created by the Welsh government as a wholly owned nonprofit company. Transport for Wales Rail (ltd) was created as part of the TfW group to take over the management of the Wales rail network and borders from KeolisAmey.
